Timothy Moorhouse BA Dipl Arch graduated from the Leeds School of Architecture, Leeds, England in 1980 and became member of the Royal Institute of British Architects.
After moving to Harrington, Maine in 1982, Tim worked for Bangor architects WBDR (now WBRC) and later for Ralph Buckminster Architects in Ellsworth. Once comfortable with local and regional differences in building construction and design, Tim set up upon his own and founded Design North in 1985.
Now in its 21st year Design North is primarily involved with residential design both with new houses and additions to existing ones. Other commissions include new offices for the Hospice Education Institute in Machiasport, new facilities for the Harrington Family Health Center, a new Faith United Methodist Church in Columbia, Fitness Central in Harrington and new dental offices for the Machias Dental Associates. Overseas his design work includes an elementary school in Ladakh (Jammu & Kashmir, India) and Buddhist temple at Tashi Lhunpo Monastery (Bylakuppe, Kamataka, India), seat of the Panchen Lama, and will include an apartment for the Dalai Lama.
Tim has also built numerous buildings since his move to Maine including several barns, a log sauna, a 4000sq ft fitness center, a small cabin on a lake, a camp house for an international children's camp and has substantially re-modeled his own house. Hands-on building knowledge enables him to design with practical building construction and the builder in mind.
